My Ultimate Goals Revealed

March 9th, 2009 Posted in advice, goals, personal, writing | 3 Comments »

Today I’m sharing for the first time my list of lifetime goals. I have been writing down and achieving these goals for about eight years, but until now I have kept them to myself.

As I have previously mentioned the catalyst for these came about from my struggle with illness in my early teens. At the time I had little reason to live except the love of my family and my dreams.

I had plenty of time to think over what I would do with my life if I was ever going to get better. Gradually I wrote a list of all the things I would do – big and small. They all seemed so impossible, but as time went on my focus on achieving them became more and more intense.

Anti-Library

March 1st, 2009 Posted in advice, personal, writing | 5 Comments »

Most of us have a library of some variety. It’s a bookshelf or similar were we store all the books we have read and whatever other knick knacks you can fit in it. I have one of those, but I also have an anti-library.

A what?

An anti-library. Quite simply its a smaller bookshelf that holds all the books I own that I haven’t read yet. But there is a little more too it than that. It’s a rather simple system with quite a number of benefits.

The Importance of Examples

February 23rd, 2009 Posted in advice, writing | No Comments »

So often when trying to educate people to our own way of thinking people make the fundamental mistake of failing to provide an example. I’m certainly not immune.

So this time I’ll get things off on the right foot:

“Setting an example is not the main means of influencing others – it is the only means.” – Albert Einstein

In case your not quite ready to take Einsteins word for it, here is a few more examples, of examples and their effect on us.

Firesale

February 17th, 2009 Posted in advice, personal, writing | 1 Comment »

Few things in life can focus your thought and actions like a life changing event.

Just over a week ago my hometown along with a lot of the state of Victoria in Australia was under siege from bushfires. Whole towns were virtually wiped from the map, 800+ homes were destroyed and over 180 lives were tragically lost.

For a while my home was in the line of fire. Had a major wind change not happened I have little doubt it would have burnt to the ground. I had packed a bag of essentials and was ready to flee.

For the fortunate ones such as myself who were spared there are personal lessons to be learned and questions to be asked. Here I present a few that have flashed through my mind in the past week.

Inventors and Salesman

February 11th, 2009 Posted in advice | 1 Comment »

Everyone needs to be their own salesman and cheerleader. If you are not promoting yourself, who else is going to do it for you.

Sometimes good deeds, quality work, innovations and other positive contributions go unnoticed.

I think quite a lot of people out there have a lot to say or contribute but have issues about being seen as bragging or even just uncomfortable about the possibility of being in the spotlight.

You must break away from these fears, if not for your own success then to contribute to society.

No BS Guide to Ideas

February 4th, 2009 Posted in advice, writing | 5 Comments »

Some people seem to have grand notions about creating ideas. They believe people are naturally blessed with the ability to come up with ideas, or they are not.

I don’t believe it is true.

Sure some people may be nurtured to have more creative tendencies from childhood however we can all learn this skill. I’m sure what follows will get you up to speed in the creativity stakes.

Gurus & Belief Filters

January 27th, 2009 Posted in advice | No Comments »

I am not a guru. My word is not gospel. I am not all wise and knowing.

My advice here should serve as a guide. Like all things you should read my recommendations with an open mind. If you like what I suggest, then try it. If it works for you, incorporate it into your life. Great.

If you don’t like what I say on a particular matter, then ignore it and move on with your life. I wont take it personally.

The 3 Ways to Ignorance

January 21st, 2009 Posted in advice, writing | No Comments »

I read quite a lot, from books, blogs and everywhere else.

One thing that has been irking me lately is the overuse among many bloggers of lists.

You see them everywhere: ’173 Get Rich Gimmicks’, ’43 Ways to Sell Your Soul’, ’5 Simple Steps to Stalk Your Ex’.

It is getting tiring people.

Another Year of the Treadmill

January 14th, 2009 Posted in advice, personal | 3 Comments »

Today I turn 23.

That to some would be cause for concern and in moments of weakness I have felt a little scared seeing the years go by.

It seems the world keeps turning faster and faster, gaining speed and momentum.

Looking Forward and Looking Back

January 7th, 2009 Posted in goals, personal, travel, writing | 4 Comments »

Without a sense of direction in life we can be lost amidst a sea of turmoil, being pushed from one wave to another, sometimes sinking sometimes floating but never sure of where we may wash up.

This is the primary reason I set and follow my goals. Before the start of each new year I review how i preformed on my goals for that year and set out my direction for the year to come.

So without further delay here is a summary of how I performed on my goals last year and what I plan to achieve this year.
